個人的にはイングランド主将、32歳になったジェラードを、桧舞台ではおそらくこれが最後の雄姿となるのではないか、と思い心から応援しましたが、イタリアの猛攻の前に守備に追われてしまって結局、キャノン砲といわれる彼の強烈なミドルシュートを見ることはできませんでした。残念です。
