MATCH PREVIEW

Arsene Wenger will be praying his Jose Mourinho hoodoo doesn't hit again. He's never beaten the Chelsea boss in 11 previous encounters.

In March, amidst much hullaballoo about the Frenchman's 1,000th Arsenal game, his team was thrashed 6-0 at Stamford Bridge. He won't welcome any reminders that this week marked another anniversary - 18 years in the hot seat.

His team allowed him to celebrate that milestone with the fine Champions League win over Galatasaray.

Danny Welbeck's midweek hat-trick means he has six goals in his last six matches for club and country. He looks a different player from the isolated figure forced to play wide at Manchester United.

But the Turkish defence was awful. Chelsea, conversely, have nine clean sheets in 11 home league games and kept another shut-out in Wednesday's Champions League win in Lisbon.

At the other end they look formidable, with 19 league goals already - compared to seven at the same stage last season.

Diego Costa has been awesome, with eight goals in his first six league appearances. He has turned Chelsea into odds-on title favourites. They're unbeaten so far and haven't lost in their last six meetings with Arsenal in all competitions.

The Gunners haven't kept a clean sheet at Stamford Bridge in their last nine visits and I can't see them doing so again. They're not strong enough defending set-pieces, where Chelsea are so powerful.

There have been giddy away days for Arsenal there over the years. Van Persie's hat-trick of 2011, Kanu's treble in 1999 and Nigel Winterburn's late thunderbolt two years before that. What are the chances, though, of a repeat?

Both sides will have fitness issues after their European games. But it is 13 months since Chelsea last followed a European match with a league loss (at Everton).

If Arsenal do avoid defeat then they must be considered serious title candidates. But, for me, Chelsea will be opening a sizeable gap at the top this weekend.

MATCH FACTS

Head-to-head

Chelsea won this fixture 6-0 in March in Arsene Wenger's 1,000th match in charge of Arsenal.
It was the Blues' biggest victory against the Gunners, and only the second time Arsenal have lost a Premier League match by a six-goal margin (along with the 8-2 defeat to Manchester United in 2011).
Arsene Wenger has failed to win any of his 11 previous encounters with Jose Mourinho (D5, L6).
The Blues are unbeaten in their last six league and cup games against Arsenal (W4, D2), scoring 12 times and conceding just twice.
The Gunners' last five Premier League wins at Stamford Bridge have seen them come from behind to win.

Chelsea

The Blues have netted 19 league goals in their opening six games - it took them 12 matches to reach that mark last season.
Diego Costa has scored eight goals in his first six Premier League appearances, a figure only Micky Quinn, with 10, can better in the division's history (Sergio Aguero also hit eight).
Chelsea have kept nine clean sheets in their last 11 Premier League home games.
They have scored with 26% of their shots this season, the best chance conversion rate in the Premier League prior to this weekend's fixtures.

Arsenal

Arsenal are unbeaten in their last 11 league games (W7, D4), although they have drawn four of their last five top-flight fixtures.
Seventeen of the 41 league goals (41%) conceded by Arsenal in 2013-14 came in defeats away to the three sides that finished above them - at Manchester City (6-3), Liverpool (5-1) and Chelsea (6-0).
Five of the seven league goals they have conceded this season have arrived before half-time.
